How we help Carers Card Do you look after or help support, a family member, a friend or a neighbour? We know that when you are looking after someone, money is often tight and it can be hard to get out and do things. Carers in Southampton have launched the Carers Card to enable you to save money and do more. The card is available to unpaid carers and most discounts are offered on production of the card. How to get your card: If you are over 18 years old and caring for an adult you need to complete a Carers Assessment. See here. If you’ve already had a Carers Assessment, you just need to email a headshot photo to [email protected] with your name and address and will send one out. If you are a Parent carer Children’s Services are responsible for carrying out assessments for parent carers, however, you are still eligible to receive a Carers Card. Please contact us for more information. If you are a Young carer The Southampton Young Carers Project is responsible for carrying out assessments for young carers. You are, however, still eligible to receive a card. Please contact us for more information. Note – Carers Cards are only available to unpaid carers who are registered with Carers in Southampton Your details will be held on a database and not passed on to any other party. Join scheme Answers to questions we have received Can Fosters Carers get this also? If you are a paid Foster Carer then you would not be eligible for the Carers Card. The card is specifically for people looking after someone with additional needs and not in receipt of remuneration for that role. People in receipt of Carers Allowance and Attendance Allowance are eligible. What if I, the carer, or the person I care for does not live in Southampton? Either yourself, as the carer, or the person you help support must live within the Southampton City Council boundaries to be eligible for a Carers Card. If I receive Carers Allowance, am I an unpaid carer or able to get a carers card? Yes you can have a Carers Card; just because you are in receipt of Carers Allowance doesn't make you a paid carer. A paid carer is someone in the profession providing care in a professional capacity.
