Communicare in Southampton

Description

A variety of neighbourly services are offered (subject to volunteer availability), but the one most in demand is befriending, where volunteers visit clients in their own homes. We are based in Southampton Voluntary Services, though we maintain satellite offices in Shirley and Woolston twice a week.

Befriending and regularly visiting those who are lonely or housebound in their own homes

Shopping

Shopping for or with those who are elderly, unwell or disabled

Out and About

Accompanying people out for a walk, out for coffee, to a favourite place or to a social gathering

DIY & Gardening

Helping with DIY, decorating and domestic tasks around the house, as well as, gardening help, such as mowing the lawn, weeding and garden clearance

Transport

Providing transport to medical appointments and social engagements, where taxis and public transport are not an option

Family Help

Helping young families support their children through play and practical help

Hospital Homecoming

Thanks to new CCG funding, Communicare have been able to set up a new service to support vulnerable people, who have recently been discharged from hospital. Communiteers help with small ‘settling back home’ tasks, including shopping, light cleaning and checking people have enough to drink and eat, with the main purpose of reducing hospital re-admission.

Unfortunately Communicare cannot offer nursing, personal care or legal advice, and the availability of help is always dependent on the availability of our volunteers. They do aim to meet as many requests as they can.
