A variety of free neighbourly services are offered (subject to volunteer availability), but the one most in demand is befriending, where volunteers visit clients in their own homes.

Covid-19 Service update:

Transport
Is available subject to having a willing volunteer. They are prioritising medical appointments. Passengers need to be able to get in and out of the back seat of a car without assistance and are asked to wear a face covering.

Shopping/errands
The team are on hand to provide help with this. Contact them to discuss details.

“Hello Southampton”
A new telephone support service providing up to 5 calls/week, Monday – Friday (or less frequently if desired). A quick 10 min call for anyone who would benefit, including carers, to check that all is well.

Hospital Homecoming
Communicare continues to provide good neighbourly support to those coming home from hospital, usually for up to six weeks. This has now been widened to include anyone who would benefit from this support to help prevent hospital admission. What is on offer will vary depending on circumstances and will be considered on an individual basis. Home visiting is likely to be limited but vital transport, shopping, errands and telephone contact are usually available.

Telephone befriending
Where a regular chat with a friendly ear/voice would be beneficial Communicare can match people up with one of our telephone befrienders. Details vary according to the wishes of both beneficiary and volunteer. Each “partnership” is tailored to that particular couple.

Pen Pals
There is a pen pal scheme in place for those who enjoy making and maintaining friendships this way.

Postal Project
During the lockdown a new way of involving and engaging service users has been developed. This consists of a newsletter/activity pack posting through snail mail designed to brighten the day and help people to feel a part of something.
