Carers in Southampton are referral agents for SCM’s Basics Bank for emergency food and clothing.  We can refer you using an e-voucher that you can use at any of their Basics Bank venues.  Phone us on 023 8058 2387.

SCM's CLOTHES venue is now SHUT for the remainder of the crisis,
but their FOOD venues remain currently OPEN AS NORMAL with increased HYGIENE precautions.
From 24th March 2020, in order to preserve stocks, food parcels will contain 4 days worth of food
(previously 5 days worth of food).

Please DO NOT attend the Basics Banks if you have a high temperature, or a new persistent cough.

If you are unable to collect food due to symptoms or self-isolation, please arrange someone else to collect the food on your behalf.
This can be a support worker or a friend or relative.

SCM is doing all they can to keep the service running safely for service users and volunteers.
It is likely in the coming days and weeks that they will have to make changes to how they distribute food.
This will be the normal allocation from tomorrow (Tuesday 24th March)
Please see their website for updates:

Referral details:

Southampton City Mission run an emergency food and clothing project, providing help for people to get through short-term crises, emergencies and problems that they encounter. They are not able to provide help for people on a long term basis and do not wish clients to develop any kind of dependency on their service. As such, in conversation and cooperation with their referral agents, they reserve the right to refuse food or clothing from any clients they feel are either abusing our service or becoming unhealthily dependent upon it.

In order for a client to receive food and/or clothing help from Basics Bank they must be issued with a voucher from one of SCM’s referral agents. These include social workers, health visitors, doctors, community workers, shelters, drop-ins, Probation, Citizens Advice, No Limits, Housing Associations, Charities, Churches and others.

Once a client has been issued with a voucher, either electronically through our online system or given a paper voucher, they can redeem it for food help at any of SCM’s Basics Bank Food venues, on any day that they are open. For clothes help however, in order to maximise client choice, they have one Clothes Basics Bank open only on Wednesdays at Ascension Church. See Basics Bank page for details.

The clothing bank mobile number has changed to 07845 028386 and is available on Wednesdays 10am-3pm.
