Right by You (Wessex) – Advisory Group

Opportunity to get involved

About ‘Right by You’

People tell local cancer support services that cancer care provided by GP practices and hospitals does not always feel joined up and people don’t always get the support on the things that matter to them.

Local cancer services across Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are working together to build towards a more supportive and personalised approach to cancer services. The ‘Right by You’ project’s ambition is to provide people living with cancer, their family, carers and friends with support for the things that are most important to them.  These needs will be identified by the person and their supporters and could cover any aspect of life affected by cancer, from diagnosis through treatment and beyond.

This project will test new ways to have conversations with people about their needs, and aims to join up services provided by GPs, hospitals, social services and voluntary/ community services to ensure support is given in the right way at the right time.

Interested in getting involved?

If you are interested in helping to develop these new ways of working, we have an exciting opportunity to become a member of a new Project Advisory Group made up of patients, carers, families and support organisations. We welcome people of all ages, from all backgrounds and communities.

We are looking for people who have been affected by cancer who can provide feedback, ask awkward questions, offer thoughts, advice and guidance based on your experiences and insight.  Your role will be to look at aspects of the project from your perspective, and whether you feel that the ideas reflect the needs of people who use cancer services. Your lived experiences of being on the receiving end of health and social care can help to shape and improve how future care is provided.
