Help and information Health conditions Disability Southampton Portage Service home teaching service for pre-school SEN Description Southampton Portage service is a home teaching service for young children with special needs aged 0-3 years who are delayed in at least two areas of development. The referral process is an open to anyone to refer in. The service will then go and meet the child to make sure they meet the criteria. Services The Southampton Portage Service offer a phased support starting with Portage support. This includes advice on teaching, helping out with forms, visiting preschool, and prepares families for Portage teaching. Portage teaching is a regular weekly home session to support the child's learning through a small step approach, with an individual learning programme that is reviewed every three months. Portage teachers are never left in sole charge of the children we are working with, and all work is carried out in the presence of families or the staff at early year’s settings. All portage staff undergo advanced DBS checks (Disclosure and Barring Service). Portage also have three Portage parent drop in groups across the city on a monthly basis, for parents to get together for cuppa and share ideas.
